BAC SEMINARS NEWS:

Seminar visit to iGuzzini HQ
As a studio and as a final class with Mercé Berengué, we were able to have a walkthrough of MIAS Architects’ iGuzzini Illuminazione HQ Barcelona and experience the pros and cons of such a radical building. A let down of the tour was the cancellation of attendance by the principal architect of MIAS Architects but that allowed us to pose questions that had no end and begin an attempt to read the architects purpose for the design. Arguments were brought up on what were ideas that were not achieved successfully and vice versa. Good architecture is a substance that can provoke argument and feeling and in iGuzzini HQ that is exactly what is done. And a great thank you to Mercé for taking us on these great site visits that stimulate an important part of architecture and its experience.

In Design Communication with Pia Wortham, we discussed towers and hotels, specifically HOTEL ME by DOMINIQUE PERRAULT. To begin to understand how tower structures worked, we were introduced with fundamental physics ideas and equations that are used in order to make a tower structure stable and safe while still working with forces around. It wasn’t until the completing of the final quiz that we will no longer be having PIA as a lecturer since it was the last class of the semester. It is agreed that she is one of the best lecturers we have ever had and an all-around awesome person to learn from. Thanks Pia!

One of the last desk critiques before the Second Phase review prior to Final Review continues in order to get the work needed done to have as many competitive projects as possible. Students present progress throughout the week and absorb and apply feedback given by the professors. Many sleepless nights are ahead and that’s part of all the fun of architecture.
