Nicolas Vaucher s17 lecture series

Born in Geneva, 1965, Nicolas Vaucher studied architecture at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) where he graduated in 1991. He gained professional experience abroad in Auckland (NZ), New York (Eisenman architects) and in Paris (François Roche).

In 1993, he co-founded BMW architects, winner of the Distinction of Romande architecture 2006 and recognized for the quality of its projects and competition entries.

He became a visiting professor at HEPIA school of architecture in 2007. As an active member of several professional associations, he defends and promotes architectural quality, for both our urban and social environments, convinced that a beautiful city is a city that promotes better living.

Since 2008, he is the Design director for Burckhardt+partner in Suisse romande (French-speaking cantons of Switzerland). He actively develops a common cultural knowledge for urban context and architecture in collaboration with his project teams.

Committee member of the Swiss Architects Federation (FAS) and member of the Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects (SIA) and the Architectural Commission of Geneva (Commission d’architecture de Genève)

Past Monday, one of the visits  was at Arquitectura Viva headquarters. Luis Fernández-Galiano, director of one of the most prestigious European architecture magazine received us and shared with our students secrets of their magazine.
We wish to see our students professional works published here in the near future.

Energy as a Design Driver in  Urban Design

Aleksandar (Alex) Ivancic

Alex is a mechanical engineer and holds a PhD in Thermal Science. His main professional interest is positioned within energy systems and its environmental impacts, with a particular focus on buildings and urban scale. He is equally committed to teaching, researching, and practicing.

He is currently Senior Consultant at Aiguasol Engineering (Barcelona, Spain). He also serves as a member of the International Keio Institute for Architecture and Urbanism at Keio University (Tokyo). Alex is elected member of the Scientific Society of Serbia. He is member of the editorial team of

Alex has published more than sixty papers relating to energy systems, urban infrastructures, renewable energies, energy planning and computational fluid dynamics. He also published the book titled EnergyScapes (2010 Gustavo Gili).
